Tried to edit from my app and things got a little goofy...bear with me, I'm retyping the first half of this entry!
Had another amazing day! Spent part of the morning carefully laying out a plan for the day...only to scrap it at the last minute and follow my bliss!
What I enjoyed most about my day was having time to read. I did a lot of dining alone, which basically meant I was on a date with my book all day. I finished the freaking book--one I started on Friday. It's been so long since I've had the time and the freedom to read like this--it's addictive. And quite frankly, if I had been at home, I wouldn't have done it.
Then I took a quick walk through Civic Center Park, enjoying both the greenery and some sweet architecture.
After which I couldn't find the bus stop I needed, so I decided to walk the mile to brunch instead. Not a block later I stumbled upon the History of Colorado building, with a sign that advertised "100 items to celebrate 100 years", and decided to stop in. Great place for kids to get engaged in learning, and some interesting things for adults as well.
On to brunch I went, after that. I found a place called the Punch Bowl Social, and it was super cool. set up like a dinner, but also had other rooms with a 360° bar, lunge furniture, and even bowling, darts, bags, and more! I also met two other people from Wisconsin, sitting right down the bar from me--what are the chances!
The walk back towards he capitol included an impromptu stop at the Fainting Goat Pub, where I enjoyed an Irish Mule and some fried pickles on the rooftop patio. More reading, lots of sunshine, and now, a little sunburn to show for it.
Further down the way, I couldn't resist stopping into the Denver Public Library! I judge a library by how fun and interactive their children's room is...and this one did not disappoint! The whole building was pretty impressive, actually.
Leaving the library, I visited another attraction on a whim--the Clyfford Still Museum. Still's art is apparently revolutionary, and perhaps if I had gone on the tour, I would think so too. But I wasn't in the mood for much interaction with strangers, so I wandered alone. I did find a room where you could make your own art. You could post what you had created, and the coolest part was these tiny trading cards that you could design and leave behind, taking with you a card from another artist.
After a brief interlude in which I was done walking in my boots (not what these ones were made for) I threw on my Nikes and walked down to 16th Street Mall. So far, this is my favorite area of the city. I walked the whole thing down and back, before finally deciding to eat at Yard House. Now I know that my goal was not to eat anywhere I've eaten before, but you just can't pass up Yard House. Especially considering we don't have one in Wisconsin. And extra especially considering I was craving the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich before I even knew there was a location here.
Tomorrow's plans involve a run back to City Part, where I will take in the sights of the zoo, the Museum of Nature & Science, and possibly the Botanic Gardens. After that, I'll see where the wind takes me!
Adventure awaits!
